The magic of Brunello Thurs. June 2 winemaker dinner

Above: Mt. Amiata as seen from Castelnuovo dell’Abate (Montalcino). Part of what makes the “terroir” of Montalcino unique is the protection from inclement weather provided by Mt. Amiata. And the ancient volcanic subsoils of this now extinct volcano give an intense minerality to the Sangiovese that is grown here. Winemaker Lorenzo Sassetti of the legendary Livio Sassetti winery will be speaking tonight about the unique subsoils and growing conditions that make Brunello di Montalcino one of the world’s most collected and coveted wines.
